Running For My Sanity

Running to deal with it all….

2010 Mission Trip Day 1 (and a run)

Today is our first full day here in Bayboro, NC for our mission trip.Everyone is excited and the living quarters are really nice this year. Today we are visiting two nursing homes to do our program thentonight we will be our first night of Hero Headquarters vacation bibleschool.  So far, the iPad has been a big hit and everyone loves it.Casey and Blake were up for several hours playing with the pinch/zoomfeatures looking at pictures.  All the kids would like to say “HI” toeveryone back home.  I will write some more later to let everyone knowhow the day is going.  Catherine The Great would like to send backthat we have been an excellent ministry to the mosquitos and bugs sofar.  Brenda wants to let everyone know that we have been a buffet. The camp director said they have not a mosquito issue until last week. They knew we were coming and we are yummy!  We all think Bryant is inheaven.  Right beside our cabin is a full size basketball court.  Hewas out there until lights out and right back there first thing in themorning.  He has met a local basketball coach who was giving him sometips last night.
Hopefully we can get a few different groups of youth to write up someof their experiences each day from the trip.

Thankfully, the running has resumed again.  After only 10 miles lastweek, I have some make up to do if I want to reach 60 for this month.Mornings here in Bayboro, NC are MUGGY.  First thing I noticed whengoing out was how THICK the air is. Regardless it was a really nicerun – 4 miles in 41:20.  This is much faster than at home but there isabsolutely no elevation here.  I need to take my cell phone with menext time and get some pictures of what is around here.  As I wasrunning there were little crabs about the size of a silver dollarcoming out of the grass to the road to greet me.  Not far from wherewe are staying is a nice sized dock so I decided to run down there andtake a look.  There were blue crabs, jelly fish, and a few crackedopen oysters. Definitely not sites you see everyday back in MadisonHeights, VA.  Today was day number one in my new Brooks Ravenna’swithout orthotics.  Riverside Runners received my new size late lastweek and today was the first chance I had to test them.  Really pleased so far!
